It should have been "por" indeed.
You also speak different languages and that's awesome especially since you're living in the United States, you sincerely have an interest in languages.
Sometimes I wish I lived in a place that accepted languages more
I was telling my aunts who live in the southern part of the United States about how I wanted to minor in Spanish when I went to college and they seemed to think it was stupid

Well I guess to most people there thinks that English is the most useful language only, which is not I think.
You could learn a whole lot more about different places and people with their way of life and culture if you know about their languages.
Well I think you saw that and you have the 'amor' for the languages that you're interested in, and that's cool.
And yes! I definitely agree. When you know a language, it opens many more possibilities when you travel!

You know if you want to read Papiamento newspaper; they have their own websites.
Like Diario, Solo di Pueblo, Awemainta ect.
And I didn´t know that! I´ll have to look up those newspapers
